We loved showing them the event in action but they were there for a very special reason. This was due to the work of one very special young golfer, 8 year old Giovanni Tourino who, we are pleased to announce, is the first winner of the England Golf Hero's Handshake award of 2024.
After competing in a few of our very first FCT events last year, "˜Gio' contacted County Secretary Richard Arnold and County Assistant Manager Chris Harrison with a desire to raise money to fund prizes for all the other children competing in the tour final, what a heart warming gesture this turned out to be.
By various innovative methods Giovanni raised over £300 and used the funds to gift each young player golf balls, a medal and supply the winners trophies at the grand final of the 2023 tour.
Gio also attended his "˜aspirations day' at school as a Hampshire Golfer, a goal we share with him for the future.
Giovanni you are absolute example of how sport should be, caring, inclusive, competitive and giving everyone a chance to achieve, we are so very proud of you.
Keep up the good work on and off the golf course you are an absolute credit to us all.
