Seniors open season with a win

Hampshire Seniors began their competitive season with a strong win against Sussex

Our Seniors section got their season off to a flyer with an extremely strong win against a tough Sussex side at Brokenhurst on Monday 15th May.

Andy Palmer took charge of the team earlier this season and was itching to get the league underway- putting out a strong side for the first match of the year. The pre season matches against Jersey ended up being ideal practice for the match in the New Forest with all but one of the team selected having played in the winning side against our Channel Island friends on the same course.

You can see from the resultsherethat is was not a one way street of scores as Sussex picked up points in the early matches and, at one point, were looking on course for an easy win. However, Tim Gilbert turned his match around going from being 1 down with 2 to play, to win on the 18th green. This set the tone for the back end of the matches as the 'tail began to wag' and the blue points flooded in from the second half of the order, with some emphatic wins from Martin and Oscar at the back end of the field.

Well done to all and thank you to Brokenhurst for being such brilliant hosts and presenting the course in such immaculate condition.

Our next Seniors League match is away to Surrey on the 1st August.
