Hampshire Under 14's off to a flyer!

On Sunday, the Hampshire U14 team took part in their first league match of the season against BB&O and Surrey at Castle Royle Golf Club near Reading. The weather was kind and we had a lovely, warm and sunny afternoon. The match was played as individual triangular scratch matchplay over 18 holes.

The U14's Team L-R, Henry Atkinson, Charlie Ship, William Stratford, Joe Clothier, Felix Marshall, William Aikenhead, Oliver Bourke, Ollie Blunn, Seb Toft, Leo Miller.

The team were well prepared having practiced triangular match play for their first three county training sessions. They had a practice round the day before with coach Adam Glass joining which really helped their course strategy and planning.

The preparations paid dividends and it was a day to remember, with a narrow win over Surrey and a convincing win over BB&O! The desire and never say die attitude across the matches was obvious, as so many went down to the wire, earning key points across the board. On paper against handicaps we were the underdogs but as the saying goes - a match is played on grass, not on paper! A fantastic result and an excellent start to the season, however the work is not yet done, as we look to build on this for our second league match in a fortnight. A special mention to the parents who were all so supportive and to the players who came over from Jersey and Guernsey - your commitment is very much appreciated!
