Hampshire hang-on to beat Surrey

Hampshire survive tense finish to beat Surrey.

With two putts to win the Match Billy Watson rolls his birdie putt down the hill on the 18th green and into the hole!

Hampshire survived an afternoon singles fightback to beat Surrey at Burhill Golf Club today (9/8).

Hampshire skipper Steve Williams breathed a sigh of relief as his team recorded the narrowest of wins at the Surrey club.

Hampshire had led after the morning foursomes but Surrey won five of the first six singles matches to edge ahead. It was left to Billy Watson and Mark Burgess to win the last two singles matches. Burgess closed out his match on the 16th green while Watson holed a slippery 14 foot birdie putt on the 18th green to win his match 2up.

Hampshire will win the SE Group League (South) if Surrey beat Kent at RAC Club on Sunday 30th August.

Martin Young & Tom Robson beat Callum Mackay & David Primrose (4&3)

Harry Ellis & Ryan Henley beat Liam Cox & Tom Neve (3&2)
