The Challenge League Team faced a strong Sussex side away at Willingdon on Sunday 18th June looking to get their own back after losing to the same side in the first leg of the matches at The Army in May. The team, consisting of a mixture of experience and youth, left themselves with serious work to do after losing all 4 foursomes matches in the morning wave. Safe to say that going down didn't dampen the spirits too much as the top 3 singles matches all came in with wins and the comeback was on!!
Once the momentum shifted in Hampshire's favourt, not even the rain could dampen their spirits. The team could smell blood and pushed their advantage- pulling off the once unthinkable by winning the singles 7-1, finishing the day as 7-5 winners.
Captain, Lawrence Cherry had this to say about his team- 'It was an absolutely superb result and a hugely important one! The way the boys prepared and got stuck into the afternoon was fantastic and this is why, in my opinion we are one of the best counties out there. Most teams wouldn't have had the belief that they could come back from 4-0 down but not at any point yesterday did we look defeated or did the attitude drop and this is why we managed to put up the fight we did and get the result. This really has kept us in the title race now - so it's important that we continue this progress in to our matches against Kent later in the Summer!'
Well done team Hampshire and to the team for an incredible win.
