The County First Team ran Kent to a close second in the 6 Man Qualifier

To paraphrase our First Team Coach, Kev Flynn- 'We will learn more from this day then we would have if we had won' and how close Cherry's first team came to picking up the 6 Man Qualifier and securing a date with the North West Links at Southport and Ainsdale later this Summer where the County Finals will be contested.

The Hampshire Team can hold their heads up high as they battled for every single shot- finishing second- over the course of 36 holes of the toughest conditions you could ever play in. You know it's windy when 'elder statesman' of the team- Martin Young describes it as some of the windiest conditions he'd ever played in!

Despite the breeze kicking up over 40mph, Charlie Forster returned an unbelievably impressive round of 67, 5 Under par in the morning- the best score of the day by a mile. The team strung together some really solid golf in the morning and headed in to the afternoon round just 1 shot behind Kent. Unfortunately, the lads in blue couldn't quite continue their solid scoring, despite battling for every single shot and left themselves relying on a Kent slip up which never materialised.

Our County Captain, Lawrence Cherry, summed it up by saying he was 'so proud of the team for how well they prepared and kept calm under pressure' adding that 'all he can ask for is for the team to give their all for the shirt and that is exactly what they all did'. The first team will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming league match against Surrey at Blackmoor Golf Club next month.
